TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, July 30 (PIA) – The Rotary Club of Tuguegarao Rainbow (RCTR) donated at least 1,000 washable facemasks to frontliners here yesterday.
President Dr. Jinky Banatao-Banusing and members have distributed facemasks to traffic enforcers, street sweepers, garbage collectors and members of Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) operating in the city.
Not only that the Rotarians distributed the facemasks to the beneficiaries but also oriented them on how to wear the mask properly and to disinfect them.
Banusing said the club identified these beneficiaries as these individuals just like any other frontliner are also vulnerable to exposure to possible carriers of COVID-19.
“We should also understand the risk of their jobs as they are also exposed to the deadly virus. Most likely, they will encounter infected individuals just as health practitioners and other first responders,” Banusing said.
For her part, Leonita Gayagoy, 50, expressed her gratitude to the Rotarians for the kind gesture saying that she felt how the members look on her safety as she performs her job everyday as a street sweeper.
“Amidst this pandemic, garbage collectors are frontliners too, at times, hardly noticed and recognized. We have to initiate such facemask as one of the priority projects of our District Governor Gil Dindo Berino,” the dentist-president said.
The facemasks are customized in compliance to Rotary International’s branding with the logo and club’s name. The mask is safe to use and has three cotton-layered protection with adjustable ear loop.
The Task Force COVID-19 We Heal as One service project of the RCTR is one of the commitments of the organization to lessen the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
On the other hand, the group paid a courtesy call to Tuguegarao City Mayor Jefferson Soriano after the distribution.
Soriano has lauded the initiative of the Rotarians of RC Rainbow and hopes that other organizations would follow the same. (MDCT/ADS/PIA-2)
