PARAÑAQUE CITY, July 22 (PIA) — A Filipino diplomat on Tuesday said the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. eyeing to utilize modern technology for the 2022 elections.
Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdes said the Embassy is coordinating with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on the possibility of using technological innovations for overseas voting and registration.
“We have to do it again electronically in the meantime,” Romualdez said during the Laging Handa public briefing on Tuesday.
“Meron kaming prinopose noon sa ating Comelec na talagang yung registration at saka voting pwede nang electronically.” he added.
Romualdez shared that during Comelec Commissioner Ma. Rowena Amelia Guazon’s visit to the US, she agreed to the possibility of using mobile devices in the conduct overseas elections.
The Philippine envoy said the Embassy have spoken to a technical individual from Boston, Massachusetts who was able to developed a software that will allow voters to use their personal mobile phones to vote.
“Marami nang mga state dito ang ginamit yang voting by cellphone lalo na sa mga military, and it’s been successful.” said Romualdez.
Currently, Romualdez said the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. is accepting Overseas Voters Registration. (PIA-NCR)
