The Baguio Flower Festival season is almost upon us. As early as December 17, 2018, Baguio City announced the line up of activities for the 2019 Panagbenga Festival. This year, the festival officially starts on Feb. 1 and ends on March 10. It lasts a week longer than the usual one-month celebration. Here are the schedule of activities for Panagbenga 2019 and the list of roads that will be closed during the festival.
Panagbenga Street Dancing and Grand Parade Schedules and More
On Feb. 1, Friday, the Opening Day Parade along with the elimination round of the Drum and Lyre Competition for the Elementary Division will happen along Session Road, Harrison Road and culminating at the Baguio Athletic Bowl. The parade starts at 8:00 a.m. The city government usually declares no classes in public and private schools for the elementary and secondary levels.
Unlike the past years when the main parades were held during the last weekend of February, this year will see the parades happening on the first weekend of March. The Grand Street Parade is scheduled on March 2, Saturday, followed by the Grand Float Parade on March 3.
Like the opening parade, both grand parades will go through Session Road and Harrison Road. The Street Parade usually ends at the Athletic Bowl, while the Float Parade converges at Melvin Jones Grandstand.
Blooming Forward: Other Activities Lined Up
The Baguio Blooms Exposition and Exhibition will run from Feb. 1 to March 1o around Burnham Park. Juan Luna Road and Lake Drive will be closed to traffic for this activity.
Baguio Country Club will hold another Flower Tee Open Golf Tournament on Feb. 15 and 16. Graduates of the Philippine Military Academy will be welcomed to their Homecoming which runs from Feb. 15 to 17. On Feb. 17, there will be several activities at the Melvin Jones Grandstand as part of the Handog ng Panagbenga sa Pamilya Baguio, including a Fireworks Display.
After the Grand Float Parade, Session Road will be closed for one whole week as Session Road in Bloom will be held from March 4 to 10.
On March 10, the Closing Ceremonies of Panagbenga will culminate with a Grand Fireworks Display which is set to happen in 5 stations.
Panagbenga 2019 Road Closures In Baguio City
In relation to the festival, visitors and residents alike are advised that what road closures will be implemented, as follows:
Feb. 1, Friday – Upper Session Road from Panagbenga Park, Session Road and Harrison Road to Athletic Bowl
Feb. 1 to Mar. 10 – Juan Luna Road and Lake Drive, Burnham Park
Mar. 2, Saturday – Panagbenga Park, Session Road, Magsaysay-Maharlika, Harrison Road to Athletic Bowl
Mar. 3, Sunday – DILG, Session Road, Magsaysay-Maharlika, Harrison Road to Melvin Jones Grandstand
Mar. 4 t0 10 – Session Road, from SM Rotonda to Malcolm Square
