PASIG CITY, July 12 (PIA) — The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through its TB Platforms project, collaborated recently with the Manila Health Department recently to provide a webinar on PhilHealth accreditation guidelines for DOTS facilities, as well as the Out-Patient Anti-TB DOTS Benefit Package.

The webinar aims to highlight key technical policies in managing TB or tuberculosis in hospitals and facilities, among others.

Dr. Gina Pardilla, Chief of the Manila City Health’s Planning, Research, Training and Coordination, welcomed online participants and expressed her gratitude for the technical assistance of USAID in their TB program implementation.

Participants to the webinar include Dr. Maria Juliet Recidoro, OIC Chief of TB Control, Manila City Health Department and Dr. Janice Gem Perlas, Medical Chief, Health Care Delivery Management Division, PRO NCR and Rizal, Philhealth.

This is the first of a series of webinars that will help encourage DOTS facilities to submit their accreditation requirements especially during this pandemic to boost the city’s TB response.

In 2019, the City Government of Manila led by Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, expressed his full support to the #EndTB campaign. USAID’s TB Platforms collaborates with Manila City Health Office and its stakeholders on localized TB campaigns and public outreach. Even before onset of COVID-19, the City Health Office has been planning to launch its program that will help eradicate TB in the country.

According to USAID, the TB Platforms has supported the drafting and passage of the city government’s local TB Ordinance appropriating P3M annual budget for their TB program.

Dubbed, “Todas ang TB Todits!” the campaign will be formally launched in August in time for the National Lung Month celebration. USAID added that the campaign will also highlight how the City Government of Manila will strengthen their TB response amid COVID-19.

USAID’s TB Platforms Field Operations Area Manager Dr. Hansel Ybañez along with the project’s Sustainable Finance and Partnerships Specialist Dr. David Lozada Jr. have been engaging PhilHealth personnel in various webinars to explain the latest accreditation process for TB DOTS facilities.

The technical assistance provided by USAID will help the City Government of Manila and its constituents address various gaps concerning public access to health insurance support that will also promote positive health seeking behavior especially for TB patients and their families. (PIA-NCR)
