ROXAS CITY, Capiz, June 18 (PIA) – Officers of the Supreme Student Council (SSC) of Capiz State University (CAPSU)– Roxas City main campus have utilized their idle time amid the suspension of classes last March to source out help and donations from friends for the production of personal protective equipment PPEs).
This was disclosed by CAPSU– SSC president Anthony Lopez, in an interview with Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar in today’s episode of Laging Handa Network Briefing.
Lopez, a 3rd year student of Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English, said that the simple SSC project as a response to scarcity of commercial facial protective gears has sparked the support of the school management and outsiders that expanded the production from face mask to PPE suits, aerosol boxes and other protective gears against COVID-19.
Based on the CAPSU – main records, a total of 14 Aerosol boxes, 541 PPE sets, 230 ear guards, 150 face masks with shield, 1,776 face masks and 5,576 face shields were produced and distributed by the school from March 18 to May 29.
This was all made possible due to the support of CAPSU president Dr. Editha Alfon, CAPSU main administrator Dr. Winnie Legario as well as the faculty and staff who also poured in their resources, efforts and time for the PPEs production and distribution to border checkpoint, hospital frontliners, commercial establishments’ workers and government as well as private establishment employees, among others, he explained.
The student body has also distributed 25 food packs for stranded students due to the Enhanced Community Quarantine implementation in the province.
Lopez stressed that CAPSU main campus’ production of 5,000 face masks and face shields to students for the upcoming school year is also underway.
CAPSU has been a grand champion for the Gawad Kalasag in the higher education institution category for 2018 and 2019, which is an annual national search for excellence in disaster risk reduction management and humanitarian assistance. (JBG/AAL/PIA Capiz)
