SaNSA opens in August, “LR on Wheels” launched

March 14, 2021 Uncategorized

ALABEL, Sarangani, July 13 – The Sarangani National Sports Academy (SaNSA) is now gearing up for its opening of classes on August 24 as it welcomes its first set of Grade 7 student-athletes for school year 2020-2021.

According to Rochelle Morido, SaNSA program coordinator, academic and sports training for this school year will be both offline and online with the observance of the national health standards and protocols against Covid-19.

“Sa sports training when we say online, naa sila’y online learning through interactive videos sa mga social media platforms. While when we say offline, naay mga flashdrive nga ipanghatag containing instructional and demonstrational videos para pod sa mga bata na sundan nila bisag naa sila sa ilang balay, maka-training pod sila,” (flshdrive will be given containing instructional and demonstrational videos for the children to follow even when they are at home, they can still train) Morido said.

The Department of Education-Sarangani is now crafting a learning continuity plan for the curriculum delivery of basic subjects, while the Sarangani Provincial Sports Development Unit’s training plan is now set for the training sessions of the student-athletes.

“Sarangani National Sports Academy is a proposed stand-alone secondary school with special program in sports. So it’s like the ordinary secondary high school pero ang focus niya, special curriculum niya is sports,” Morido said.

Alma Gabuat, provincial sports coordinator, said “in the initial agreement of the PLGU and DepEd, the provincial government will deliver the sports training for the student-athletes.”

“Naa tay gi-hire na mga consultants from Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and other national coaches na mag-train sa atong mga student-athletes. So ang DepEd is purely on the academic lang gyud sila,” Gabuat said.

According to Gabuat, Henry Dagmil, a former Olympian and South East Asian Games men’s long jump record holder, has committed to assist in the sports academy’s training programs and has been designated as the PSC regional coordinator.

For this school year, Gabuat said SaNSA will only cater to “80 target qualified student athletes inclined into sports, specifically athletics, swimming and combative sports like judo, wrestling, taekwondo and arnis.”

Through Republic Act 1124 sponsored by Senator Manny Pacquiao and Congressman Ruel Pacquiao, the establishment of Sarangani Sports Training Center (SSTC), which will be the home for SaNSA student-athletes, was enacted into law on February 22, 2019.

The state-of-the-art multi-sports facility, which is the first in Region 12, includes a 400-meter outdoor track oval, a 200-meter indoor track oval, two baseball fields, indoor multi-sports facility, Olympic-size covered swimming pool, and seven dormitory buildings.

“SaNSA was created for us to prepare our student-athletes sa Sarangani to become one of the followers ni Senator Manny Pacquiao, and eventually yung ma-produce na SaNSA students, ini-envision natin na maging valued athletes ng ating mga universities and colleges, na yung mga prominent colleges and universities will just go to SaNSA and get sports scholars from the school,” Morido said.

Morido disclosed qualified student-athletes should be at least instructional readers and average learners, while Gabuat on the other hand, said they should have a background in sports, and have participated in Palarong Pambansa or Regional Athletic Meet.

On the other hand, Morido said DepEd Sarangani has recently launched LR on Wheels, which stands for Learning Resources on Wi-Fi Hub for Expanded e-Learning, in Sarangani.

“We are cooking a project called LR on Wheels, wherein ang online learning sa bata dili na kailangan ug internet dili na mag-gamit ug load, as long as naa sila’y gadgets, maka-access sila sa mga digital materials through our LR on Wheels,” she said.

LR on Wheels utilizes an offline learning management system broadcast over an access point through intranet where learners can hook their gadgets in order to access learning materials like digital copies of learning modules, interactive worksheets, and videos. This project eliminates one major concern in e-learning, which is internet connection.

“It’s a project in Sarangani, only in Sarangani naay LR on Wheels. Right now, ongoing ang pilot testing natin sa mga munisipyo,” Morido added. (Jori Mae Samillano/SARANGANI PROVINCIAL INFORMATION OFFICE)
