PH Embassy in UK imposes health & safety protocols; consular services strictly by appointment
PARANAQUE CITY, June 20 (PIA) — In line with the resumption of consular operations, the Philippine Embassy in United Kingdom (UK) tailored its process to ensure that health and safety measures are in place to prevent the spread of the dreaded coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
At the virtual Laging Handa public briefing on Friday, Philippine Ambassador to UK said, the Embassy now requires those who will avail of consular services to have an appointment before going to the office .
“Services such as passport renewal, legalization of documents, and civil registry will strictly be by appointment,” Lagdameo stressed.
The adjustment in process will safeguard the health and well-being of the clients and personnel of the embassy.
“Aside from the consular services, the Philippine government has distributed financial assistance to amounting to 200 US Dollars each to qualified beneficiaries,”Lagdameo said.
Some 485 Filipinos were reported positive with COVID-19 in the UK. Out of the 485, 56 died due to the disease. The UK is one of the countries with the most number of Filipino health workers employed.
According to John Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker, there has been 303,281 COVID-19 cases in UK as of June 20, 2020. (PIA-NCR)
