PCOO Sec. Andanar visits Lucena Fishport Complex
CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, June 22 (PIA) –Presidential Communications Operation Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar was given a walk-thru of the Lucena Fishport Complex in Lucena City which broke ground earlier this year to pave the way for a P776-million port development.
Commercial and municipal fishing vessels use the state-run regional fish port for unloading, trading and harbor operations.
The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority identified sardines, milkfish, round scad, skipjack tuna and bullet tuna as the top five fish species unloaded at the fish port.
The port visit on Saturday, June 13 was part of Sec. Andanar’s provincial sortie to check on what local governments can offer to those availing of the government’s Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pagasa (BP2) program.
“We are here because we know that Quezon province thru Gov. Danilo Suarez is committed to the BP2 program,” the PCOO chief said noting that it was important that the LGU is willing to receive BP2 applicants.
“President Duterte has adopted a whole of nation, whole of community approach to this program because he sees the BP2 as the way to go to decongesting Metro Manila,” Sec. Andanar added.
He said the national government is ready to support local governments willing to create new opportunities and industries for the BP2 program.
The province will guide the national government on where to invest.
“If the opportunity is on agriculture, then the Agriculture department will come in. If it is in line with information technology, then the DICT is there,” he added.
He added: “the government is here is to provide the people the tools they need when they return to the provinces.” (MCA, PIA-CALABARZON)
