March 14, 2021 Uncategorized

ILOILO CITY, July 22 (PIA) – A total of 15,500 Antiqueños benefited from the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s cash-for-work program.

DSWD 6 was able to release P42,470,000 to pay for the 10-day work of the beneficiaries in Antique under the agency’s Risk Resiliency Program – Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (RRP-CCAM) – Disaster Risk Reduction, a media release from DSWD 6 said.

The program aims to implement projects to address the needs of communities that are vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

Through this program, temporary employment is generated which provides income augmentation to families and/or individuals.

Each beneficiary received P2,740 for the 10-day work, representing a P274 per day payment or 75 percent of the prevailing daily regional wage in Western Visayas.

The cash for work activities include growing trees of indigenous species, communal/organic gardening, dredging of waterways, canal de-clogging, community clean-up, construction of toilets, rehabilitation of river banks and farm-to-market roads, and other activities relative to environmental protection, climate change adaptation, mitigation, and disaster risk reduction.

RRP-CCAM aims to build awareness on climate change adaptation and encourage communities to take part in implementing community-defined projects to strengthen their resiliency and adaptive capacities on the impacts of climate change and preparedness on the onslaught of disaster, the media release said.

Meanwhile Alicia Gunsi, beneficiary of RRP-CCAM, expressed gratitude to the government for helping them through this cash-for-work program.

“Duro-duro gid nga salamat sa DSWD sa nabaton namon nga cash-for-work. Ginapasalamatan man namon kay natun-an ka amon komunidad kung paano mangin preparado pag-abot kang kalamidad kag pinaka importante gid nga amon man natun-an nga mag-ugyon para sa ka-araydan kang amon mga kabataan kag sining aton pungsod labi nagid sa sining tyempo sang pandemya (We want to thank DSWD for the cash-for-work we received. We are also very grateful for we have learned how to be prepared in times of disaster and more than that, our community learned how to unite for the sake of our children and for the sake of our nation especially on these trying times),” says Gunsi.

Likewise, Teresita Ticwan, an Indigenous Peoples (IP) beneficiary, is thankful for the help given to them by participating in the program.

“Gapasalamat guid kami sa DSWD kay gin hatagan kami nila tsansa nga maka-bulig sa amon komunidad. Kag ini nga kwarta nga amon nabaton, hanggod gid ini nga bagay para sa amon nga mga IP. Salamat guid (We want to thank DSWD for giving us the chance to take part in improving our community. Also, the cash assistance we received is a very big help to us IPs. Thank you),” Ticwan said.
