New Bacoor City Jail male dormitory now host to 1,356 PDLs
BACOOR CITY, Cavite Jun 27 (PIA) –The new Bacoor City Jail Male Dormitory (BCJ-MD), a newly completed jail facility in the city is now host to 1,356 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) transferred from the old cramped facility.
The new facility was inaugurated March 19, 2020 with Representative Strike Revilla and Bacoor City Mayor Lani Revilla in atendance.
In April this year, BCJ-MD Warden JSupt. Deogracias F. De Castillo, MPS in close coordination with all the stakeholders spearheaded the strategic and systematic movement of PDLs to the new facility.
The newly-completed jail facility was built with the allocation of multi-million budget thru the Peace and Order and Public Safety (POPS) Plan for FY 2020-2022.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod approved the plan October 14, 2019 and signed by Mayor Lani Mercado-Revilla with the budget mostly for infrastructure projects, the construction of functional areas in the new jail facility.
De Castillo together with representatives from the City Engineering Office inspected the new facility February 2020, in relation to the construction of additional functional areas such as the offices for the administration, operations, and records, kitchen and the multi-purpose area.
In the following months of March and April, installation of utilities like electricity and water went underway in preparation for the planned transfer of PDLs.
The “Kabalikat Hall” Duty post/Multi-purpose area was constructed May 2020, to provide BJMP personnel with more conducive work space and at the same time, utilize as multi-purpose area for service providers, visitors, and clientele.
Likewise, the temporary kitchen was put-up to adequately provide the needed food requirements of the PDLs upon transfer to the new facility, pending the construction of the permanent kitchen.
To secure the perimeter, the fabrication and installation of steel security fence geared towards providing additional layer of security within the internal jurisdiction was completed on May 29, 2020
“This added security sends a strong signal that we mean business in so far as safekeeping of PDL is concerned,” JSupt. De Castillo said,
The installation of an overhead 2,000-gallon capacity water tank donated by the Rotary Club of Bacoor provided an additional source of water to the facility. Additional source for adequate supply of water for the sanitation and hygienic requirements of the PDLs especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.
The BCJ-MD is also very much online with the installation of internet connection provided by Globe Telecommunications Company.
