March 14, 2021 Uncategorized

MAASIN CITY, July 7 (PIA) — Mayor Nacional V. Mercado of this city reminded residents through an advisory issued on Monday, July 6, that the city government will continue to implement the “no gathering” policy due to COVID-19 threat.

The advisory, addressed to all barangays in Maasin City directs to continue banning and cancellation of events and gathering of persons until end of July this year.

“Refrain from celebrating fiesta and Barangay Day in the whole month of July 2020 in order that we can continue our efforts to prevent the entry and transmission of the deadly COVID-19 in our city,” Mayor Mercado said in his advisory.

He said that due to the continued threat of COVID-19 pandemic, there is a need to continue the preventive measures and practices being implemented by the city government.

This is also mandated through City Executive Order No. 19 and the Executive Order No. 33 series of 2020 to observe social distancing and banning activities that encourage mass gatherings.

As of July 6, Maasin City recorded a total of five confirmed cases of COVID-19 while the province of Southern Leyte recorded 72 confirmed cases, mostly locally stranded individuals coming from other provinces. (ldl/rgc/PIA-Southern Leyte)
