La Union PPO holds 1st Film Fest Awards
SAN FERNANDO CITY, Aug. 25 (PIA) — The La Union Police Provincial Office (LUPPO) successfully conducted its first film festival recently.
Dubbed as Gawad La Union Police Provincial Office Awards: Kabataan Kontra Droga At Terorism (KKDAT), the film festival focuses on anti-insurgency, anti-illegal drugs, and anti-criminality campaign of LUPPO.
A total of 13 entries from high school students across the province were received and screened.
“The activity aims to intensify the institutionalization and sustainability of the KKDAT Project of the Philippine National Police (PNP) which aims to educate the youth against the ill-effects of illegal drugs and prevent them from joining any terrorist organization,” said Lt. Col. Silverio Ordinado, LUPPO spokesperson, said.
The awarding ceremony held recently at the LUPPO grounds conferred the Best Film award to Senakulo, the entry from La Union National High School (LUNHS) in San Fernando City.
The film entitled Pa, Tawad from Don Eulogio De Guzman Memorial National High School in Bauang town landed first runner up; Hiling also from LUNHS was the second runner up; and Sebang from Union Christian College in San Fernando City was the third runner up.
In his message during the awards rites, Police Col. Jay R. Cumigad, La Union police provincial director, commended the students for their enthusiasm in participating the first film fest of their office.
“May you strive for greater hopes, be the role models to your peers, and do not fall on the alluring tricks of drugs and deceptive idealism of insurgency and terrorism,” said Cumigad.
As the event forms part to the implementation of Executive Order No. 70 or the whole-of-nation approach to end the insurgency in the country, the winning films will be used as advocacy materials of the PNP and the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict to address insurgency in the province.
Meanwhile, other major awards given include Best Cinematograper, Best Screenwriter, Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Actor. (JCR/JND, PIA La Union with report from LUPPO)
