Iloilo records 26 new recoveries from COVID-19
ILOILO CITY, July 15 (PIA) — The city and province of Iloilo recorded a total of 26 additional recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), according to the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH WV CHD).
As per the DOH-6 COVID-19 Case Bulletin No. 110, issued on July 14, 2020, 16 new recoveries were recorded in Iloilo City, while 10 patients were reported to have recovered from the infection in Iloilo Province.
In a virtual press briefing, Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te, DOH WV CHD medical coordinator for emerging and reemerging infectious diseases, said that a patient can be tagged as recovered if he will not manifest any signs and symptoms in the duration of the 14-day quarantine.
“Asymptomatic individuals can be released from quarantine after 14 days as long as they remain asymptomatic for the entire duration of the quarantine even without the confirmatory testing or test results,” she said.
Under the DOH Department Memorandum 2020-0258 or the Updated Interim Guidelines on Expanded Testing for COVID-19, the discharge and recovery criteria for suspect, probable, and confirmed cases of COVID-19 shall no longer require repeat testing.
The memorandum stated that patients who tested positive for the Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) and remain asymptomatic for at least 14 days can discontinue quarantine and tagged as a recovered confirmed case without the need for further testing, provided that a licensed medical doctor clears the patient.
Meanwhile, Western Visayas has already recorded 224 patients who have recovered from COVID-19, as of July 14, 2020. (JSC/LTP/PIA6 Iloilo)
