Ifugao celebrates 54th founding anniversary

LAGAWE, Ifugao, June 22(PIA) – – The provincial government held a   simple  celebration of the 54th Founding anniversary of the province  on Thursday(June 18) given the  restrictions under the  prevailing community quarantine  due to COVID-19.

“Whatever situation we face, we are still here as a whole  joining together to give honor and celebrate one of the most important events in our province. This is a special day when the entire province can reflect on significant developments and collective aspirations since its inception. Let us work hand in hand for a COVID-19 free Ifugao. Onward to a safer and prosperous province,” Governor  Jerry Dalipog said.

Hingyon “Mumbaki” (native priest) perform the ritual called “Huklin” for the general walfare of Ifugaos. (MBL, PIA CAR, Ifugao)

With the theme “Mih’wang tau aya’n bimmoble ituwen ‘dadag di tagu’. Madayaw hi Maknongan” (We will be spared from this human affliction. To God be the Glory), the event was highlighted with a ritual conducted by Hingyon “mumbaki” (native priests) for the general welfare of the people. A thanksgiving mass was also held at the Saint Mary Magdalene Cathedral.
  
A commemorative lunch was held at the Capitol Compound attended by some mayors, representatives of national and provincial offices.

The  organizers  implemented  minimum health standards and other protocols to safeguard the safety of the crowd.

Ifugao gained provincial status on June 18, 1966 by virtue of Republic Act No. 4695, otherwise known as the Division Law of Mountain Province. Under this law, the old Mountain Province was divided into four provinces namely Benguet, Ifugao, Kalingan-Apayao, and Mountain Province. (JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
