Healthy nutrition essential to strong immune system-NNC
DAVAO City June 5 (PIA) – An official of the National Nutrition Council in Davao Region urged the public to be aware that a stronger immune system can help them cope with the COVID-19 infection.
Retsebeth Laquihon, Nutrition officer III of the National Nutrition Council of Davao Region said immune system must be strengthened through the maintenance of healthy nutrition at this time of pandemic.
She said food packs can be reinforced by mixing food preparations with green leafy vegetables.
“Sardines can be cooked through mixing it with vegetables and tomatoes and it is very delicious and nutritious,” Laquihon said.
She said households can also harness the open spaces in their areas to plant vegetables.
Laquihon said limited spaces can be utilized in planting green leafy vegetables as hanging plants using recycled containers.
“Learnings can be acquired through the Department of Agriculture on how to plant malunggay, okra and tomatoes,” she said.
Children can be trained in eating vegetables that are helpful in their growth and stronger immune system.
They must be involved in buying vegetables, food preparation, awareness of the nutritional value and mixing vegetables in cooking chosen food in order to promote the need to eat vegetables.
Laquihon said children must avoid experimenting diet programs without consulting their doctors and dieticians.
She said it is good that children must maintain a well-balanced diet all the time. (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
