DOH bats for proper PPE waste disposal in household
DAVAO CITY, June 10 (PIA) – The Department of Health Davao Center for Health Development (DOH DCHD) advocates for the proper disposal of waste in households. This is due to the surge in the usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves and facemasks due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Assistant Regional Director for the DOH DCHD Dr. Lenny Joy Rivera discussed that it is vital for households to properly dispose of used PPEs when it comes to the segregation of waste materials and disinfecting garbage containers.
“We are going to advocate on the definitions of infectious wastes and how to dispose of them properly… surgical face masks that are used by people should be disposed of properly and not just thrown out anywhere and the proper disinfection of waste bins should be practiced in each household,” Dr. Rivera said.
The DOH DCHD will coordinate with the City Government of Davao and local governments of all provinces in Region XI on how to disinfect trash bins which may be exposed to infectious waste materials from households all over the region
“We will discuss with the City Government as well as the provincial LGUs the guidelines on how to properly disinfect designated areas or containers for the mass collection of waste materials and to also start an information campaign so that people would know what to do if there will be used PPEs,” Dr. Rivera added.
