Dgte gets COVID-19 rapid diagnostic test kits

March 14, 2021 Uncategorized

DUMAGUETE CITY, May 13 (PIA) — The Dumaguete City government has received 350 units of Hightop SARS-CoV-2 IgM/IgG Anti-body Rapid Test Kits donated by entrepreneur and philanthropist Jean Henri Lhuillier, president and Chief Executive Officer of Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation Inc.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said the test kits will be utilized by the City Health Office (CHO) in testing suspected cases of COVID-19.

Remollo lauded the contribution of the Lhuillier Foundation, as the donated test kits will boost the work of the CHO in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

“But not everybody can avail of the Rapid Diagnostic Test considering the limited number of available kits,” the mayor said.

In line with this, the City’s Inter-Agency Task Force COVID-19 will follow the Department of Health’s order of priority as follows:

  • The first priority will be patients, including medical professionals and health workers, who exhibit severe to critical symptoms of COVID-19 with known travel history or contact to a positive patient.
  • This will be followed by medical professionals and health care workers with mild symptoms and known exposure to a positive patient, and all patients with mild symptoms of COVID-19 classified as PUI, who are known to be high risk with pre-existing medical condition and/or member of the vulnerable group with known travel history or contact to a positive patient.
  • Medical professionals and health workers with no symptoms (asymptomatic) but with known exposure to a positive patient will also be tested including patients with no symptoms (asymptomatic) with known travel history or contact to a positive patient.

Dr. Sarah Talla of CHO said the Rapid Diagnostic Test is to be used as an aid in the diagnosis of COVID-19, which is caused by SARS-CoV-2.

The test will provide preliminary results and negative results do not preclude SARS-CoV-2 infection and they cannot be used as the sole basis of treatment or other management decision. (jct/PIA7 Negros Oriental with reports from CPIO Dems Demecillo))
