Dgte endorses Grab Trike system
DUMAGUETE CITY, July 16 (PIA) –- Dumaguete City government has welcomed a move to adopt a Grab Trike system to provide the commuters in the city a convenient and comfortable ride.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said the system allows tricycle drivers an additional income using the mobile app of the Grab Philippines.
Remollo cited that with Grab Trike, the riding public is protected from fare overpricing, while both drivers and passengers including the unit are covered by comprehensive insurance.
However, the pedigrab or Grab Trike is voluntary, hence, those tricycles already operating in the city will not be phased out.
Instead, pedicab drivers or operators can convert their franchises to Grab Trike.
“There is no plan in the city to abolish the pedicabs but the national law will require them under the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), but I already told the drivers last year that they need to prepare in case they will implement this law,” said Remollo.
Using a smart cellphone to register the app system allows the user to see the fare rate, the photo of the driver, and his pedicab number.
Thus, overcharging will no longer happen as it is already fixed rate even it if it takes two to three passengers, the mayor explained.
“A flag down rate of P30 plus P10 for the booking fee that makes P40 and an additional payment of P5 for every kilometer, but the passenger is guaranteed or assured to be picked up by the driver at the place where the passenger located,” the mayor said.
With more than 2,000 pedicabs operating or running in 30 barangays, initially only 100 pedicab drivers are needed to enroll to Grab to start the operation.
“There is also profit sharing or point systems if you reach a number of trips a week, if you are a frequent user of the app, the passengers have additional perks and benefits,” said Remollo.
The mayor explained that under the PUVMP, tricycles will no longer be operating because the vehicles to operate require an engine that takes a fuel that is Euro4 compliant.
Euro4 is recommended by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) because this is the least pollutant among the fuels. (jct/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
