DA pushes multi-commodity processing, composting for farmers
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, June 22 (PIA) –The Department of Agriculture (DA) here will propose the establishment of a 45-million multi-processing and composting facility at the Nueva Vizcaya Agricultural Terminal in Nueva Vizcaya to lessen wasted crops of farmers and turn them into other products.

“We urge farmers to change their planting calendar to ensure good market and also to practice proper segregation,” Edillo said.
He said that aid has been extended to tomato farmers as tons of tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables were hauled by department to bring it to the different Kadiwa Centers regionwide, including the distribution of 1,300 plastic crates.
Edillo said proper handling must always be practiced to ensureslower tendency pf products loss.
Edillo also encouraged NVAT to utilize the presence of the Organic Waste Converter which was donated to them to transform food waste into beneficial fertilizers.
The Nueva Vizcaya Experimental Station will facilitate the fermentation of undisposed fruits and vegetables for plain fertilizers and for feeds of livestock.
The director will also ask r Nueva Vizcaya Gov. Carlos Padilla to issue an Executive Order prohibiting the dumping of agri-fishery products in all public places.
