Borongan City to focus on agri-fishery under ‘Dukwag Agrikultura’
BORONGAN CITY, Oct. 9 (PIA) –Borongan City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda said that Borongan City is focused on agriculture under his ‘Dukwag Agrikultura’ (roughly Push Agriculture) program.
This he told PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar as Agda served as a guest during the Network Briefing News episode on October 9, 2020.
“Pinagkakakitaan po namin ang agriculture and fishery,” said Agda who ran as a mayor under his battle cry on agriculture development.
Agda added that the city government has allotted some P100-M to extend credit to farmers and fisherfolks without interest.
“Aming napansin na malaki and challenge on how to produce more, honestly, the city imports everything that we eat, ” said Agda.
But the COVID-19 pandemic he said gave them the realization that the city needs to produce more to feed its people.
“Kung advantage man ang COVID, doon namin napagtuunan pansin ang agrikultura.”
“We are an agricultural city, while our city faces the vast Pacific for fisheries, on our back are the vast farmlands,” he added.
The Mayor hoped that with his program coupled with the support given by the national and provincial governments, the city can produce more for other towns and even other regions. (nbq/PIA E. Samar)
