Beware of online sex trafficking, exploitation amid community quarantine
PASIG CITY, May 26 (PIA) – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) warns public anew of another financial crime taking advantage of public health emergency.
In a news release, the BSP advised the public to be careful of a COVID-19 financial crime in the guise of online sex trafficking and exploitation.
The BSP said, the COVID-19 financial crime takes place when fund transfers or digital payments are made for online sex trafficking or child exploitation especially during the community quarantine period.
“The public and BSP-supervised financial institutions (BSFIs) are reminded to remain vigilant and to take necessary precautionary measures against these new patterns of criminal behavior as well as emerging typologies on money laundering/terrorism financing (ML/TF) activities and other financial crimes being perpetrated amid the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police also warns those who access and distribute sexual abuse and exploitation materials online.
