Baguio City and Benguet approved for 2nd tranche of SAP subsidy

BAGUIO CITY, June 23 (PIA) – – Qualified beneficiaries of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) in the  City of Baguio  and the province of Benguet  are eligible for the second tranche of cash subsidy  being among the  local government units  where Enhanced Community Quarantine was extended from  April 30 to May 15, 2020.

DSWD – CAR Regional Director Leo Quintilla, in the Kapihan media forum,reports  that distribution  of  SAP cash subsidy  to   eligible   waitlisted or additional family benefeciaries   has started and  going on  smoothly   in close cooperation of local government units and   other partner agencies.  (CCD/PIA CAR)

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD – CAR) Regional Director Leo Quintilla disclosed in a PIA – led Kapihan media forum here that  around 13,612 Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries in Baguio City and Benguet have already received their second tranche of SAP financial assistance through their EMV cards.

For non – 4Ps beneficiaries, there are 45,916 SAP beneficiaries from Baguio City and 59,918 in Benguet who received the first tranche of financial assistance. DSWD – CAR has scheduled   distribution in partnership with the local government units, local social welfare and development office and the Philippine National Police, and hopes to release the second tranche to the clean list of qualified beneficiaries by June 24.

Quintilla also reported that distribution of SAP cash assistance to the approved waitlisted or additional family beneficiaries in Cordillera already started last week with the pilot cash payout   conducted in Kapangan, Benguet and Baguio City to   a total of 396   beneficiaries.

Some LGUs in Cordillera submitted a total of around 9,000 waitlisted families for the SAP cash subsidy. If validated eligible, they will receive the  subsidy for first trance.   

Meanwhile, Quintilla disclosed that DSWD will also be providing educational assistance for indigents families through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS).  Assistance to be provided will be up to maximum of P5, 000 depending on the assessment of the local social welfare officer on the educational needs of the family.

The indigent family will be validated and certified by the local social welfare officer and the barangay must also provide them with certificate of residency. 

Quintilla clarified that 4Ps beneficiaries are not included in this AICS educational assistance   since they are all receiving educational subsidy within the program.   (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
