Army’s 88IB seizes high-powered firearms from NPA in Bukidnon
CAMP OSITO D. BAHIAN, Malaybalay City, June 25 –The Philippine Army’s 88th Infantry Battalion (88IB) troopers in Bukidnon recovered six high-powered rifles after a fifteen-minute gunfight on June 22 with the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels at barangay Canangaan in Cabanglasan town.
The focused military operation by the 88IB of the 403rd Brigade in the hinterlands of Canangaan village yielded four M16 rifles; a Carbine rifle; an improvised M203 Grenade Launcher; two anti-personnel mines; six mobile phones; a laptop computer; stock of magazines; personal belongings; and subversive documents.
This followed days after the NPA terrorists burned down a brand new dump truck and a Payloader owned by private construction firms at Sinabuagan, Valencia City around 11:30 Friday night.
The military and authorities believed that the encountered NPA terrorists are the same group that burned down two heavy equipment units at barangay Sinabuagan.
Lt. Col. Franklin Fabic, 88IB commander said the perpetrators belong to Guerilla Front Malayag, SRC2, North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) under the command of Kim Banawan alias “Migs.”
The troops immediately conducted pursuit operations after receiving a tip from a highly placed source in the community who also provided substantial reports on the NPA’s whereabouts.
“We are grateful for the cooperation of civilians in the area. They provided timely and reliable information on the location of the enemy, which resulted in the successful conduct of this operation. The support we get from the civilians is a clear manifestation that the enemy is in the brink of collapse specifically in these areas,” LtCol. Fabic said.
Colonel Ferdinand T. Barandon, 403rd Brigade Commander said that this focused military operation is part of the government’s relentless efforts against the NPAs or the communist terrorist groups who continuously sow panic and fear in the communities.
“We will not hesitate to unleash our combat power to protect our people and finally put an end to the local communist armed conflict. I am again calling all NPA members to lay down their arms, trod the road to peace, and be with your family. Many of your former comrades are already living normal lives. You have nowhere to run in the mountains because we will be everywhere just to protect everyone, Col. Barandon said. (CMO, 88IB, 403Bde, PA/PIA Bukidnon)
