Army, LGU facilitate stress unloading for ex-rebels
CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental, July 14 – The local government unit (LGU) of Claveria helped protect the former rebels (FRs) from post-traumatic stress by conducting stress unloading activity at the Headquarters of 58IB, Sitio Migbanday, Barangay Poblacion here.
The Dimalulupig Troopers led by Lt. Col. Ricky L Canatoy, commanding officer of 58th Infantry (Dimalulupig) Battalion warmly welcomed the facilitators from Claveria town led by Mayor Meraluna S Abrogar.
The said activity aims to help the trauma exposed FRs talk about their feelings and eventually reduce the severity of traumatic stress brought by their experiences in the mountains while pursuing against the government.
To have effective and fruitful sharing, the participants were grouped into four in which Group 1 composed of couples was facilitated by Mayor Abrogar. Different stories were heard but only one emotion was pictured out on the face of the former rebels while sharing their stressors during the group sharing session.
Mercy Joy who is a mother and a participant emotionally shared how difficult her life is. “Pagkahuman sa akong bana nga namatay tungod sa usa ka engkwentro, wala ko kahibalo kung unsaon pagpadayon ang akong kinabuhi kauban ang akong upat ka mga anak. Naghunahuna ko bahin sa kinabuhi sa akong mga anak. unsaon nila pagpuyo? unsaon nila pag skwela? Ang ilang adlaw-adlaw nga panginahanglan? Unsa nalang ang elang mga pangandoy?,” Joy shared in tears.
(After my husband died due to an encounter, I did not know how to continue my life with my four children. My mind was full of sad thoughts. How about the lives of my children? how do they learn, their study? Their daily needs? What about their dreams?)
“Grabe akong pag-mahay sa akong bana tungod kay nag padala siya sa mga propaganda nga gipang- ingon sa NPA ug tungod anah namatayan ko ug anak. Gipang linla me sa tanan nilang pasalig, mga pasalig nga wala nag abot. Nag antos me sa kasakit, seven years akong pag mahay sa akong bana,” Elena, one of the participants said in depressed and sad voice.
(I was very disappointed with my husband because he preferred to believe the NPA’s propaganda over than me and because of that one of my sons died. The NPA fooled us with all their false ideologies and commitments. Commitments that were not true. We have suffered from pain and with that I was disappointed with my husband for seven years.)
“Malipayon mi karon kay naay gobyerno nga andam muhatag ug tabang sa amua. Karon, nigaan na akong gibati (I am now happy because we have a government that is ready to help us, I feel relieved),” said alias Santol.
“Starting today, you must move on and continue with your new life in the mainstream society. Let us not stick on the bad memories we had instead, we will create happy memories because this is the greatest legacy that we can leave to our children,” Mayor Abrogar said.
Meanwhile, Lt.Col. Ricky L Canatoy, Commanding Officer of 58IB lauded our LGU partners for initiating the activity saying, “You Dimalulupig Troopers are here to listen to your stories and experiences to help you have healthy psychological, emotional, moral and spiritual aspects of your life.”
“Together we will all smile for we are now free from stress,” Lt.Col. Canatoy ended. (58IB)
