SAN JOSE, Antique, May 5 (PIA) – -Antique is optimistic to revive the local economy of the province while under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

With the issuance of Executive Order No. 45 of Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao that puts now the province under the GCQ, Antique could start the economy rolling and revive small livelihood opportunities for the people.

Cadiao is also working to facilitate the return of Antiqueño workers who are stranded in different parts of the country.

The governor, during the Laging Handa Public Briefing hosted by Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar, May 2, stressed her support to Antiqueño workers who expressed eagerness to go home but were restricted during enhanced community quarantine.

The Provincial Government, with the support of Deputy Speaker and Antique Lone District Representative Loren Legarda, has implemented the Talipapa Kada Barangay Project/Pagkain Para sa Tanan Project.

Under the project, the province and Office of Representative Legarda buy the products of farmers for them to earn and give these products for free to the barangays and to those who want to engage in selling business in barangay “Talipapa” using these products as a start-up capital.

For the returning Antiqueño workers, Antique bought P15-million worth of rapid testing kits to be used to test the 1,500 sugar migratory workers, also known as “sakadas” coming from Negros province, as well as for returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), among others.

“They will undergo quarantine, aside from testing to contain spread of corona virus. The Province will be strict in implementing protocols to contain the infection,” Cadiao said.

Per latest report from the Provincial Health Office, Antique has 13 confirmed cases and four recoveries. The confirmed cases were mostly concentrated in one area.

Under EO 45, Cadiao Cadiao said that in municipalities with confirmed positive cases, the concerned local government unit is given the discretion to implement additional health protocols within their area of jurisdiction. (JBG/psm/PIA Antique)
