Another Eastern Samar town dispatches its RCSP teams to conflict-stricken barangays

March 14, 2021 Uncategorized

BORONGAN CITY, July 14 – (PIA) – The local government unit of Maydolong has dispatched its Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP) also known as peace and development teams to the distant barangays Canloterio and Patag.

This is according to Mayor Godofredo Garado of Maydolong town in a phone interview, Monday.

The deployment of the team is in compliance with the Executive Order Number 70 or under the National Task Force–End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

Garado said the 78th (Warrior) Battalion under Lt. Col. Oliver C. Alvior with the officials of the LGU sent-off the team early this July.

The RCSP team will immerse in the community for some time to identify the development gaps and the needed government intervention in the hard-to-reach areas in the country.

In the development planning, the team from the LGU and the uniformed men, the locals especially the barangay leaders will be consulted and their opinions and comments considered for the government to genuinely address the development gaps, Garado said.

These areas are economically challenged being distant, said Garado.

“The main products of the barangays are root crops and coconuts,” Garado said.

Brgy. Canloterio and Patag are located along the Suribao River, across the conflict-stricken barangays of the city of Borongan.

Said barangays are considered “rebel highways” (or aragian) and reportedly frequented by armed men believed to be rebels.

Alvior said that when the government becomes successful in cascading development to the barangays, the locals will have no more reason to entertain the communists.

The activity, said Alvior shows the “shared commitment of the stakeholders in addressing the long standing security, social and economic problems in the communities.”

“The RCSP team serves as the convergence mechanism of the NTF-ELCAC,” the commander of the 78th IB said.

The LGU and army officials are confident that the unresolved issues will be addressed once the RCSP team reaches its implementing phase. (nbq with reports from the 78th IB)
