AFP frontline troops receive food donation from 18th Congress
CALOOCAN CITY, June 21 (PIA) –Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) frontline troops received thousands of food items from the 18th Congress of the Philippines on Friday, June 19 in recognition of their dedication and untiring efforts to battle the corona virus disease (COVID19).
The AFP was given 1,882 sets of vegetables, packs of 1kg cream dory fish, and 1kg chicken leg quarters; 565 boxes of vitamins; 19 sets of ziplock packs; and two 22-cubic feet chest freezer which was delivered in advance on June 17.
A turnover ceremony was held at the Headquarters, Joint Task Force – National Capital Region (JTF-NCR) inside Camp Aguinaldo where most of the frontline troops are assigned to. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honorable Alan Peter Cayetano and his spouse Congresswoman Maria Laarni Cayetano personally turned over the items to AFP Chief of Staff General Felimon T. Santos Jr.
“On behalf of the men and women of the AFP, I would like to express our sincerest gratitude and appreciation to House Speaker, Alan Peter Cayetano together with the members of the congress for their donations in valuable support to the AFP specifically to the JTF-NCR,” said General Santos.
In his speech, House Speaker Cayetano expressed his gratefulness to the soldiers of the AFP who continue to risk their lives to serve the people and protect the nation from all threats.
“I am also here to lend support to the armed forces not only in the fight against COVID but in the fight to have a safe Philippines. From securing the West Philippine Sea, to the insurgency that is being fought in the grassroots level all around the country, to the terror threats of ISIS and the remnants of the ISIS from the Middle East and other parts of the country; every single day of your life, naka duty man o hindi, naka uniporme man o hindi, nilalagay nyo ang sarili niyo sa panganib (on or off-duty, in uniform or not, you continue to risk your lives) so that we can have a safer life,” said Speaker Cayetano.
Also present in the ceremony were Brigadier General Rene Raul Rommel DC Honasan, Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics; Brigadier General Benedict M. Arevalo, Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations; Brigadier General Alex DC. Luna, Commander of JTF-NCR; and Colonel Danilo E. Estrañero, the Army Liaison Officer to the House of Representatives.
General Santos presented a plaque of appreciation to Speaker Cayetano and Congresswoman Cayetano to extend the AFP’s gratitude.
“Beyond the material things, it is really the thought and expression of generosity that we appreciate the most. Thank you for thinking of the well-being of our soldiers and prioritizing their needs during this difficult time. Your kind gesture is a big boost to the morale of our troops.
