TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, May 14 (PIA) — Forty-four towns in Bohol have completed their payout for the government’s cash assistance to poor and low-income families, according to a May 11 report from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-7).

With only four towns left trying to beat the deadline after the government gave a 10-day extension to local government units (LGUs) for the Social Amelioration Program (SAP), the government has already handed out a total of P1,049, 952,000, or 96.30 percent of the total P1,090, 260,000 allocated for Bohol.

The government’s Social Amelioration Program distribution has been an energy sapping activity for social workers and municipal government but the payoff is the alleviation it gives to poor communities. Siquijor is the smallest province in the region as Negros Oriental has 25 towns; Bohol, 48; and Cebu with 53 towns.

In Bohol, 96 percent of its LGUs have completed their payout to 174,992 family beneficiaries.

As of May 11, among the Bohol towns that have been nearing completion of their payout are Bien Unido with a payout rate of 99.60 or 2,998 beneficiaries paid, and Loon which has 6,500 beneficiaries paid out of the 6,629 target beneficiaries or 98.05 percent.

As to the mandated liquidation of the SAP funds, around eight local government units in Bohol have completed in submitting the requirements, according to DSWD.

This is 16.17 percent of all towns here, liquidating the total SAP payout of P129,114,000. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
