1-M families in WV get DSWD subsidy assistance
ILOILO CITY, May 12 (PIA) — Nearly one million families in Western Visayas have already been given emergency subsidy assistance by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through their local government units (LGUs).
In a press release issued by DSWD 6, it reveals that as of 8 p.m. of May 11, the DSWD Field Office VI has already served a total of 983,001 family beneficiaries.
The media release added that the figure is 85.20-percent of the total non-Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries in the region who have been given their emergency subsidy assistance under the government’s Social Amelioration Program (SAP).
“The total amount released to the non-4Ps SAP family beneficiaries reached P5,898,006,000,” DSWD 6 Regional Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre said in the media release.
Each family-beneficiaries was paid P6,000 as cash assistance in view of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic that resulted in community quarantine.
“There are 65 out of the 133 LGUs in the region that have already completed their SAP distribution,” Macapobre added, citing the five LGUs in Aklan, 16 in Antique, 15 in Capiz, five in Guimaras, 11 in Iloilo, and 13 in Negros Occidental.
Of the 65 LGUs, 13 have already submitted their liquidation reports to the regional office.
“Our LGUs are required to submit their liquidation report to process the second tranche of their SAP assistance,” she said during the agency’s virtual presser on May 11.
Meanwhile, there are still 68 LGUs that were not able to finish their SAP distribution despite the extension given by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) until May 10.
However, Macapobre said that DSWD will still allow the LGUs to continue their payout to complete the distribution of the government aid, advising, however the concerned LGUs to write a letter request to DILG Secretary Eduardo Año, copy furnished DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista, for the extension of time for distribution of the assistance.
“We want our LGUs to finish their SAP payout because the people need the cash aid,” Macapobre stressed.
She noted that so far, 33 LGUs in Iloilo, two in Capiz, 12 in Aklan, two in Antique, and 19 in Negros Occidental have ongoing SAP subsidy assistance payout.
“We have also paid out P32,526,750 to 6,995 4Ps beneficiaries in Western Visayas who have no cash card,” she said, adding that the they are expecting to finish the payout to the remaining more than 800 beneficiaries this week. (JBG/PIA6/DSWD6)
